Head of Philanthropy
Salary: £46,000–£50,000
Hours: Full Time
Location: Central London / Hybrid (team currently in office 6 days per month)
Annual Leave: 25 days paid annual leave, increasing by 1 day per year of service (up to 28 days), plus an additional day for your birthday or key LGBTQI event and time off over the Christmas week.

About the Role
Fundraising and philanthropic advocacy are at the heart of GiveOut’s work. As Head of Philanthropy, you will play a critical role in shaping and executing our fundraising strategies, ensuring the growth and sustainability of our impact. You will lead the fundraising team, manage key donor relationships, and oversee all aspects of philanthropic engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategy and Leadership
- Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising and philanthropic advocacy strategies and plans aligned with organisational goals.
- Shape and lead the Philanthropy team, managing the Senior Corporate & Partnerships Officer and a new Philanthropy Officer role.
- Keeping up to date with the latest trends in the non-profit sector.
- Contribute to GiveOut’s overall strategy.
- Donor and Partner Engagement
- Cultivate relationships with individual donors, corporate partners, trusts & foundations, and government funders.
- Represent GiveOut at events, speaking engagements, and corporate partner meetings.
- Develop and deliver compelling fundraising campaigns and initiatives.
- Team Collaboration and Development
- Work closely with the Communications & Campaigns Officer to create effective donor materials and messaging and contribute to GiveOut’s overall communications strategy.
- Collaborate with the Leadership Team and Senior Grant-Making Officer to align fundraising and grant-making priorities.
- Operations and Reporting
- Track and analyse fundraising data to evaluate effectiveness and inform strategies.
- Maintain and optimise fundraising systems, including the donor database (Donorfy).
- Provide regular reports to the Executive Director.
- Contribute to a positive, effective, and collaborative organisational culture, aligned with GiveOut’s vision and values.
What Success Looks Like
- Meeting and even beating fundraising targets set out in GiveOut’s growth strategy.
- Strengthening relationships with donors and funding partners.
- Successfully implementing the Philanthropic Advocacy strategy to increase funding for LGBTQI movements.
- Effective leadership of the Philanthropy team, fostering a positive and dynamic work culture.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Proven experience and success in non-profit fundraising, with a focus on individual giving, major gifts, trusts and foundations or corporate partnerships.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including high value donors.
- Excellent organisational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication for engaging donors and stakeholders.
- Strategic thinker with a results-oriented approach and creative problem-solving skills.
- Leadership and management experience.
- Passion for GiveOut’s mission to grow giving for LGBTQI rights and a commitment to advancing LGBTQI rights worldwide.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Proficiency with fundraising software and databases, particularly Donorfy.
- Understanding of budgeting, financial forecasting, and donor stewardship
- Experience organising fundraising events
- Ability to analyse data to track donations, identify donor trends, and optimise strategies.
- Familiarity with Google Workspace tools, email marketing platforms (e.g., MailChimp), and the GDPR.

Senior Grant-Making Officer

About the Role
Grant-making is central to GiveOut’s mission of growing giving to support LGBTQI human rights activism globally. As Senior Grant-Making Officer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering our grant-making programme, ensuring we effectively channel resources to LGBTQI activist organisations worldwide.
Bringing a passion for and knowledge of international LGBTQI human rights, you will have the opportunity to deepen your skills in grant-making, gain insights into LGBTQI human rights movements worldwide, and build meaningful relationships with LGBTQI activists and organisations across the globe.
Key Responsibilities
Sector Expertise and Insights
- Stay informed about developments in the LGBTQI movement and global LGBTQI rights, and keep the GiveOut team updated.
- Undertake occasional international travel to strengthen relationships and deepen understanding of partner activities.
Donor and Grant Partner Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with grant partners through regular communication and engagement.
- Capture and share evidence and success stories from grant partners to engage and inspire GiveOut’s supporters.
- Collaborate with colleagues to feed grant-making insights into impact reports and donor communications.
- Represent GiveOut’s grant-making programme externally at events, including occasional evening engagements.
- Help organise and join meetings between grant partners and donors.
Grant-Making Strategy and Programme Implementation
- Help shape the design and execution of GiveOut’s grant-making programme
- Ensure GiveOut’s Grant-Making Policy and guidance remain up to date with best practices in grant-making and is responsive to the needs of the global LGBTQI movement.
- Work with the Grant-Making Advisory Panel (GMAP) to review GiveOut’s grant-making strategy and programme, identify and assess new grant partners, and coordinate annual GMAP meetings.
Grant Portfolio Development and Management
- Develop an annual portfolio of grants, balancing renewals and new partnerships, and collaborate with the Executive Director to present to the Board for approval.
- Conduct due diligence on grant partners, draft grant agreements, and manage payment processes.
- Monitor and evaluate partnerships, coordinating narrative and financial reporting to track progress and impact.
- Maintain and update the grant partner database to ensure accurate and up-to-date records.

Essential Skills and Experience
- Proven experience in grant-making or a related field such as social impact and development work, research and policy advocacy or program funding and administration within NGOs, government, charities or foundations.
- Demonstrated commitment to or connection with the LGBTQI community.
- Knowledge of global developments in LGBTQI rights and advocacy.
- Proven experience in building and maintaining relationships, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Exceptional organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- A proactive, motivated, and results-oriented approach, with a strong work ethic.
- A collaborative team player who actively contributes to a positive, inclusive, and high-performing organisational culture, aligned with GiveOut’s vision and values.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Strong understanding of grant-making theory, processes, and best practices.
- Experience with grants management databases and tools.
- Experience monitoring and evaluating grant-funded programmes.
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field.
