Initiative Sankofa d’Afrique de l’Ouest (ISDAO) is a West African activist-led fund supporting LGBTQI rights movements across the region. Established in 2014, ISDAO provides flexible funding to grassroots groups, networks and individual activists in nine countries, centering participatory grantmaking where activists themselves decide on resource allocation. Through this model, ISDAO has strengthened hundreds of local initiatives advancing human rights, social justice and liberation, while fostering cross-border solidarity and collaboration among LGBTQI communities in West Africa.
