Double Your Impact: FCDO Increases Match Funding for LGBTQI Solidarity Fund

GiveOut today announces that the UK government through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has committed an additional £250,000 in match funding for our LGBTQI Solidarity Fund. This brings the total UK government commitment to £1 million, doubling the impact of donations from our community and allies to support LGBTQI human rights worldwide.

At a time when the global funding landscape for LGBTQI rights is increasingly fragile and hard-won gains are at risk, GiveOut is working to mobilise support for LGBTQI organisations at the frontlines. The LGBTQI Solidarity Fund provides an urgent and vital resource for organisations facing funding gaps, ensuring they can continue their critical advocacy, legal aid, and support services.

By contributing to the Fund, you can double your impact and:

  • Provide emergency funding to LGBTQI organisations at risk
  • Sustain vital services and advocacy efforts
  • Help LGBTQI groups secure alternative funding for long-term resilience

Now more than ever, GiveOut calls on our community and allies to come together to make the most of this opportunity and unlock the full match to support LGBTQI organisations globally.

Jason Ball, incoming Executive Director of GiveOut, said:

“We are deeply grateful for the UK government’s commitment to increasing its commitment to supporting LGBTQI civil society at this critical moment. This additional match funding allows us to mobilise even more resources for LGBTQI organisations working under increasingly challenging conditions. We urge our community and allies to seize this opportunity to double their impact and support the work of courageous activists worldwide.”

Ryan Silverio, Executive Director of ASEAN SOGIE Caucus, said:

“Many LGBTQI organisations in Southeast Asia are experiencing a funding crisis, forcing them to reduce their operations and leaving vulnerable communities at even greater risk. Increased financial support is essential to ensure these organisations can continue their crucial work providing safe spaces, legal assistance, and advocacy efforts.”

Danijel Kalezic, Executive Director of LGBTI Equal Rights Association of the Western Balkans & Turkey, said:

“LGBTQI rights organisations in the Western Balkans and Turkey are under immense pressure due to funding shortages, leading to programme closures and staff reductions. This crisis is not just about funding; it is about ensuring that human rights progress is not reversed. International solidarity and sustained financial support are crucial for the movement to survive and thrive.”

Background on the LGBTQI Solidarity Fund

Around the world, LGBTQI people are at risk, and hard-won rights are being rolled back. LGBTQI activists are defending their communities and challenging dangerous new anti-LGBTQI laws, but they receive only a fraction of global funding and need more support.

The LGBTQI Solidarity Fund is an initiative by GiveOut to mobilise the UK LGBTQI community and allies to show their collective support for LGBTQI organisations globally. With support from foundations and the UK government through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), GiveOut has built a pool of match funding to double the impact of donations.

Through the Solidarity Fund, GiveOut is providing grants to LGBTQI organisations working in contexts where communities are under threat and resources are scarce. The Fund aims to raise £3 million over four years to significantly increase funding for LGBTQI activism and provide sustainable, long-term support.
