Around the world, LGBTQI people are at risk and hard-won rights are being rolled back. LGBTQI activists are defending their communities and challenging dangerous new anti-LGBTQI laws, but they receive tiny amounts of funding and need more support.
The LGBTQI Solidarity Fund is an exciting initiative by GiveOut to mobilise our community and allies in the UK to come together to show our collective support for LGBTQI communities worldwide.
"With more funding in the region, organisations like SASOD could better be able to provide emergency services to people who face hate crimes and discrimination. It would allow us also to amplify public education campaigns to change social attitudes, which therefore would prevent hate crimes and discrimination against LGBTQI people from occurring in the first place."
Joel Simpson, Managing Director, SASOD Guyana
With support from foundations and the UK government through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), GiveOut is building a pool of match funding to double the impact of donations by individual and corporate donors.
Through the Solidarity Fund, GiveOut is providing grants to LGBTQI organisations working in contexts in the Global South and East where LGBTQI people are at risk and hard-won victories are being rolled back.
GiveOut uses the pool of match funding to match eligible donations, unlocking more support for LGBTQI organisations globally.
For every eligible donation made, GiveOut is able to use the same amount from the pool of match funding to support LGBTQI rights worldwide.
Thanks to some of our founding supporters, we are also able to match gifts for those who want to invest in GiveOut’s work growing giving for LGBTQI human rights.
Eligible donations are those made by UK based and domiciled individual and corporate donors and subject to minimum and maximum amounts – please enquire for further details.
Donors will have the option of being acknowledged publicly as a supporter of the Solidarity Fund, and we will report back to supporters on the impact of their donations and the additional support they have unlocked.
“Southeast Asia is a region that receives very minimal support from global funds. So global funding, increased funding for LGBTQI activism in the region will definitely help local LGBT organisations to create safe spaces for their communities to meet, to learn from each other, and to have a safe space whenever they are being attacked or their families or communities are hostile to them.”
Ryan Silverio, Executive Director, ASEAN SOGIE Caucus
