We are heartbroken by the terrorist attack at Berlin CSD (Pride) this weekend. As Berliners, we grieve the loss of the person who was killed, and our thoughts are with their loved ones, everyone who was injured, and all those whose sense of safety has been shaken by this horrific act.
We stand in solidarity with LGBTQI communities in Berlin and everywhere, and especially with LGBTQI Muslims and LGBTQI refugees who may feel particularly vulnerable at this moment. We reject any attempt to use this attack to stigmatise or scapegoat Muslim, refugee and migrant communities. Our response must reject hatred in all its forms and bring us closer together across our diverse LGBTQI communities.
In moments like this, it is understandable to feel powerless. But we are not powerless. Donating to LGBTQI causes in Germany and around the world is one constructive way to turn grief into solidarity, strengthen our communities and defend the freedom and dignity that Pride represents.
